Does Superwhisper work on Windows?

Yes. Superwhisper's site lists Mac, Windows and iOS. Its Windows app shipped 1.0 in late 2025, so it is much younger than the macOS app, but Windows availability is no longer a reason to look elsewhere.

Is Superwhisper's free tier good enough?

It depends on how much accuracy you need. Superwhisper's own model documentation rates its free local models 5 out of 10 (Standard), 3 out of 10 (Nano) and 1 out of 10 (Fast). Every model it rates 8 or above requires Pro, including the Parakeet models and the dedicated Chinese model.

What is the cheapest way to get Parakeet-quality dictation on Windows?

Superwhisper lists its Parakeet models as Pro, which is $8.49 per month. VocalCode ships NVIDIA Parakeet TDT v3 as its default model for a one-time $4.99, with a 30-day trial.

Which of them keeps audio off the internet?

Both can run locally. The difference is that Superwhisper also offers cloud models and steers Intel Macs toward them, whereas VocalCode has no cloud path in the product at all — there is nothing to turn off.

Most pages with this title are out of date. Superwhisper runs on Windows now — its own site lists Mac, Windows and iOS. So if you came here to find out whether you are stuck, you are not. The real question is a different one, and it has a checkable answer.

Every model they rate 8 or higher is behind Pro. The free tier tops out at a self-rated 5. That is not a criticism of the free tier — it is a funnel, and an honest one, since they publish the numbers. But "there is a free version" and "the free version is the product" are different claims.

Superwhisper puts Parakeet behind $8.49 a month. VocalCode ships Parakeet as the default, for $4.99 once.

Where they are genuinely better

Worth saying plainly, because you will find it out anyway:

Breadth. 100+ languages, meeting recording, file transcription, AI rewriting, iOS. We do one thing and have no iOS app at all.
Maturity on macOS. Their Mac app has years on ours.
A free tier that exists. If you dictate a few times a week and short sentences, a 5/10 model is genuinely fine and costs nothing. We would rather tell you that than sell you $4.99 of disappointment.

Choose VocalCode if…

You dictate long prompts to an AI coding agent all day and accuracy on technical vocabulary is what decides whether you keep using it
You want no cloud path at all — not "cloud off by default", but nothing to turn off
You dictate Chinese and do not want the good model to be an upgrade
You would rather pay once than carry another monthly seat

Choose Superwhisper if…

One thing about punctuation

Superwhisper's own docs note that the Parakeet models "tend to struggle with punctuation and have minor hallucination issues with single word recordings". That is accurate and it applies to us too — Parakeet is Parakeet. Our answer is a separate punctuation model that runs on the recognised text afterwards, restoring commas, periods and question marks, with full-width punctuation for Chinese and ASCII for English including in mixed sentences. It is a real fix for a real limitation, not a claim that the limitation does not exist.
