What each one actually is
Spokenly is dictation for Mac, Windows, Linux and iPhone. When checked on 15 August 2026, its local on-device models (Whisper and Parakeet families) were free without word caps; a Pro subscription (listed around $9.99/month) adds cloud engines, and you can bring your own API keys. Free, local, no caps is a strong deal, and if it covers your workflow you do not need to pay anyone — including us.
VocalCode is a $4.99 one-time push-to-talk tool for talking to AI coding agents. Recognition is local-only — there is no cloud mode to upsell you to — using Parakeet TDT for European languages and a dedicated bilingual Chinese–English Paraformer model for Mandarin, with acronym collapsing ("m c p" → MCP) and a user dictionary shaped around agent prompting.
